Thank you for considering an ARF dog. Most dogs receive several enquiries, and we aim to match the right dog to the right home so that they can enjoy a happy life together. If your enquiry is unsuccessful, rest assured that the foster carer has carefully based their decision on a thorough knowledge and understanding of the dog’s needs.

Hugo has settled in to foster care like a champ, winning the hearts of his foster carers and is well on his way to learning the house rules. He already has a bagful of tricks to show you, having learned how to sit, drop and shake and sleep quietly through the night in his crate. He is toilet trained, and lets us know if he needs to go outside. If you are looking for a sweet-natured mate who has a good start on his basic training, Hugo might just be the dog for you.

Hugo might look like he is all grown up, but he is still very much in the playful puppy stage of life. His favourite toys are the moment are his pink fluffy squeaky ball and his giant rope toy, but once playtime is over he is usually perfectly content to hang out on his bed for a nap. In the evenings he loves to relax with his people or play a game with his squeaky ball – no matter what is going on, Hugo is pretty cool with it.

He’s a lap dog at heart and wishes he could snuggle up next to you on the couch, though he’s been pretty gracious about learning the ‘no dogs on the furniture’ rule. Instead he settles for resting his big beautiful head in your lap and has been known to relax so much that he will almost go to sleep standing up!

Hugo absolutely adores playing with other dogs and has energy to burn, so we think he’d like to have a doggy mate around to keep him company. He has lived cheerfully with another dog and his favourite time of the day (other than walk time and dinner time, of course!) is playdates with his doggy friends. He spends his play time zooming around the garden, playing chasies and wrestling and generally having a blast. Because his puppy-like enthusiasm can get the best of him sometimes, he is probably better suited to another dog with a similar zest for life who also thinks wrestling is the best fun in the world.

Because Hugo is on the larger side and is still a young man learning his manners, he might be a bit intimidating to little kids and older people. He is also a bit too fond of cats and small fluffy and feathered animals so will need a home without these sorts of toys! He is a big lad so would love a yard and house big enough for him to galumph around in, as Hugo’s enthusiasm for life can lead him off on adventures of his own – he has been known to take himself for a walk on occasion by getting through rural fences, so he needs a yard with solid fencing to keep him safe.
