Ned
Mar 25, 2002

Ned is a male Border Collie who is around 2 years old. Ned was accepted into the training program for the Australian Quarantine Inspection Service on 25 March 2002. "Woof! I'm here at Heathcote NSW, at a training facility which, to me, is Disneyland for Dogs! I've been training for a job with AQIS since leaving my ARF foster carer in May, and will become an official Quarantine Detector Dog on 6 September. My days involve playing with a 'dummy', (to humans it is just a rolled up towel) which I get as a reward for finding items of Quarantine concern. I'm doing really well in my training and have been nicknamed 'Neddy the Wonder Dog'! Everyone is very proud of me…" Update: "Just dropping you a line to let you know how 'Ned' the Quarantine Detector Dog is going in his new job. We passed our Training course in November and since then we have been working out in the field screening international mail. So far we have had a few finds including lavender, tea with citrus and conifer all of which are of Quarantine concern. He also loves to find chocolate biscuits which he is ment to leave alone!! It has been a really busy time over Christmas and we both have been having alot of fun. We have also made a few TV apperances (creature features ABC) and had a story written about us in the paper, so keep an eye out for him in the future."
