Roo

Roo

Animal ID No: ARF302
Rescue Date: 17 January 2020
Adopted Date: 6 March 2020

Roo has just come into foster care from Campbelltown. She’s a happy little nugget, and is quite content being with her person or napping on her bed. Roo was a breeze in the car driving back to Canberra (she napped for most of the trip) and didn’t bat an eyelid at the recent thunderstorms (more napping!). Her house manners are great and she does well being left alone – no barking or destructive behaviour. There have been a couple of accidents but this is most likely due to Roo getting used to being out of the shelter and should sort itself out soon. She’s still learning how to use the doggy door (looks like glass but isn’t, how can it be!) so this should assist.

Roo doesn’t seem to know any commands but this doesn’t affect her manners, she patiently waits for dinner, doesn’t jump up on the couch (or on people), and has been really good with meeting people. She had some very brief nervousness for the first person she met, but was then very happy to get pats and snuggle. She sometimes follows you around the house to see what you’re up to, but other times will take herself outside to sleep in the sun.

I’m still working out what gets Roo’s interest – she’s not fussed by tennis balls or toys generally, and sometimes she’s a bit scared of being on the lead (we’re working on this). However she does like treats and is very excited to see my cat, and the neighbour’s dog through the fence. She is very enthusiastic about both and excitedly barks and wiggles her whole body when she sees them (the only time I’ve heard her bark). It’s possible her excitement is due to just getting out of the shelter, but with her current behaviour I wouldn’t recommend her going to a house with a cat.

Roo is getting desexed and will be available for adoption soon.

The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated.
