** We have received a high number of applications for Barney and are not currently taking any more at this time**

Barney is a soft and affectionate boy currently searching for loving humans to spend the rest of his life with. Since being in his foster home he has shown to be very polite both inside the house and out on walks! A pleasure to have around and a good buddy to chill out with after a days work. He LOVES to cuddle and will squish his noggin into you as hard as he can to get as close to you as possible. He also enjoys butt and belly scratches and gentle kisses on his soft head.

Barney is both toilet trained and crate trained, he loves his crate and will put himself to bed in the evening without even being asked. His favourite toys are the chewy kind, he loves to chew! He is most contented when given a Kong with some peanut butter, cream cheese or yogurt inside and will gnaw away at it on his bed. He loves to throw the ball or rope around for himself and is pretty self sufficient at entertaining himself when out in the back yard either alone or with his humans. Playing with humans is another favourite of Barneys, and is generally quite gentle and has never jumped up, but he can be a little mouthy when he gets really excited so will not be suitable for a family with small children. He still thinks he is a puppy so needs a little guidance on how to use his mouth!

When out on walks Barney needs all of the SNIFFS. Sniffing is a passion of Barneys and he would like to request an owner that is willing to stop walking every now and then to let him sniff all of the sniffs and pee on some stuff. Again, he is very passionate about this! He is very well mannered on lead and generally doesn’t pull unless he sees another dog he wants to meet, where he may pull a little but not super strongly. Barney isn’t a super energetic dog that needs a super long walk or run every day, but his future humans will need to be able to commit to taking him out for walks and sniffs every day as he is still a young dog who needs enrichment and exercise.

Barney loves other dogs and would potentially like to have a doggy sibling to keep him company during the day. He has been on walks with his small friend Gary (see photo) and loved it! He can get a bit excited when he initially sees other dogs out on walks, but is quite polite when meeting them. We think that Barney would need to have some form of socialisation if he is going to be an only dog home and would potentially benefit from attending a doggy day care or being able to meet up with friends dogs to have a play. He wont however be suitable for visiting dog parks and still needs some recall training before he can be trusted completely in any off leash areas.

Barney is not suitable for a home with other small pets such as cats, birds, rabbits etc, as he does have a bit of prey drive and will likely try to chase them. Any other potential dog sibling will need to be a similar size and temperament, playful but responsible.

His new home will need to have a yard for him to zoom around in and secure fencing with no gaps to see through. He can bark from time to time at things passing by so colorbond or sturdy wooden fencing is preferred. Barney currently spends some of the day outside on his own and is generally fine and happy to hang out on his own, but he would prefer not to be left alone all day. Owners that are home some of the day or having a doggy friend to keep him company would be perfect!
