ARF is getting a new website on 27 February, we hope you like ARF’s new look. It can still be found at fosterdogs.org and has all the same features, such as our foster dogs looking for a permanent home, and the lucky ex-foster dogs who have found their new homes. CSC Update
(Communication Sub Committee) The ARF Communication Subcommittee looks after events, stalls, media, fundraising and publications. Throughout 2020 the team is working closely with ARF’s Rescue Subcommittee on a campaign to attract the new fosters who are urgently needed. Coming up over the next few months are: We have a major fundraising event during March as the nominated rescue group in the Canberra region for the Petbarn SavourLife Rescue Challenge. We were also nominated last year and received a mountain of SavourLife food supplies plus a donation of $7000. Watch out for more details on how you can support us in the 2020 Challenge. Our popular magazine Chin Wag has a new editor Hari Lodwick and she’s looking for stories and articles – if you have material and/or ideas, please contact her chinwag@fosterdogs.org Training Update There were 8 teams (handler + dog) and 5 people observing the session. This was an introduction to GRC (Gameness/Relationship/Control) Dogsports and the trainer, Amy Smith presented us with a different view of interacting with our dogs through training and obedience work. Judging from the responses of the participants, the concepts and practices introduced by Amy were thought provoking and challenging. They appreciated her thorough explanations and demonstrations with various dogs. One of the foundations of GRC is to have socially responsible dogs which will happily accompany us in any situation without becoming nervous or stressed. Some other very important aspects being addressed are the dog’s biological fulfiment, very often using play and of course effective leash handling. This session was an open introduction to GRC and Amy did an excellent job catering to all levels of experience. Her ability to remember and impart so much information was pretty impressive. Thank you Amy! Have your say:
