Meet Boof, he’s got a big head and an even bigger heart.
Boof is a very sweet dog with a friendly and trusting nature. He wants a home where he feels safe and has plenty of access to his people. He is at his happiest playing fetch where he feels secure, second only to cuddling on the couch with you.
He is 8 years old, not that you would guess it (seriously). He is in great health and has the energy to play. He currently lives in an apartment with us, but having gotten to know him, it is clear Boof would be happiest with a backyard, which would provide him with a secure, safe place to play. He loves going for long walks, and playing with balls and chew toys. He is great in the car and sheds minimally.
Other dogs in the house will not work for Boof. He has become possessive and defensive of his toys when living with another dog. Building on this he does not feel safe around other dogs in public. When he feels secure with you he can walk past other dogs and sniff calm dogs but is easily spooked and scared by small or barking dogs. This has not led to aggression but is definitely something his owner would need to keep on top of.
Boof is relatively well trained, he has got sit, stay, wait, matt, roll, spin and good leash control He has been very responsive to further training and is highly treat focused. He does not pull on the lead and can be controlled with treats. He has decent recall but would need further trust-building and training before he is an offleash dog.
When Boof is out of the house he is instantly on ‘high alert’. Tail tucked, head down and looking around constantly, especially around other dogs. This has been one of the main things we are working on with him. When he becomes familiar with an outside space and trusts you he will relax, play with his toys and toilet.
Boof truly is a lovely dog, loves to cuddle on the couch (he really does love to cuddle) and actively seeks physical assurance and comfort from you as you build trust. He is gentle by nature and puts his whole heart into play.
