Bear

Bear

Animal ID No: ARF1175
Rescue Date: 11 July 2022
Adopted Date: 26 May 2023

Bear is looking for  just the right home. Are you familiar with Am Staffs? Have you owned Am Staffs or large breed dogs before? If yes, then maybe Bear is just right for you.

Bear is a very handsome chunky monkey. He loves to lean on you, inviting you to give him pats. Bear is a fun boy who loves a game of tug or playing with toys. He loves balls of any kind and is highly food motivated, which makes him fun to train. However, Bear doesn’t have a lot of stamina, so once he has had a game he is done and just wants to lay on his bed and watch Netflix.

He is lovely to walk on lead as he will happily trot along next to you and not pull, although he does enjoy following a good smell when allowed and can be strong on lead when on a mission. After a walk he will go straight to bed and have a big snooze. Bear has been working with a trainer and knows sit, drop and wait for his food. He would like nothing better than to be inside in the warm, keeping you company.

Bear is not a fan of cats or small dogs. He can not go to a home with cats or small dogs, so if there are thoughts of getting a cat later or a small dog, he will not suit your home. He is for the most part OK with large dogs after meeting them and it may be possible to rehome him with a female of similar size and calmness. He is not a dog park dog and would need to be on lead at all times, or a long line.

Bear was quite unwell when he came into our care and as with most Blue Staffy types, he has skin issues and a sensitive stomach. He has improved considerably and is being treated with Apoquel and a diet suited to his stomach issues.

So what would Bear’s home look like? –  An owner experienced with Am Staffs or similar large dogs, committed to continuing his training, committed to his skin and dietary needs, to be part of a family being allowed inside with his own bed, good colourbond fencing, no small children as he would knock them over. He is not tall, but short, stocky and very solid.

If you think you meet Bear’s needs he will give you such joy and loyalty in return.
