Billie

Billie

Animal ID No: ARF1560
Rescue Date: 8 October 2023
Adopted Date: 9 December 2023

Billie is a very affectionate girl who loves to be as close as possible to her people. She sleeps soundly in a crate for up to 8 hours each night, although can be over-excited to get out and back with her people first thing in the morning!

She is very eager to please and responds well to both praise and encouraging voice plus some treats!   When Billie first came into care she would jump onto the couch whenever she wanted, now she will stop and wait to be invited up although sometimes her excitement can get the better of her!  For the most part, she’s learned to be more respectful of rules and boundaries.

We haven’t had any toilet accidents inside for a couple of weeks now, she has full access to the house and yard all day through the doggy door and has been left home for 9-10 hours on a couple of occasions and hasn’t done a single thing wrong. Such a good girl!

Billie sits and waits for food and is fed in the same room as her foster brother never straying from her own bowl. There is slight food guarding/growling if my dog comes close to her bowl while she’s eating.

She walks well on leash but does get distracted easily and does need reassurance at times. However, when out walking, she has learned to stop and sit when approaching a road.  Billie is also pretty good off-lead although her recall isn’t perfect but is getting better every day with consistent direction and training.

Demonstrated to be quite gentle with kids, although mildly timid upon initial introduction. Would probably suit older children because she will still jump up sometimes when excited.

Billie would prefer a home with another dog of similar energy to keep her company. Plus a more confident dog would help her continue gaining confidence.

She does have bouts of high energy but overall she’s more medium energy.  One long walk a day or two smaller walks would work well.  Billie does struggle walking in high temperatures.

Billie can wet herself a little when over-excited or unsure of things.  We try to avoid this by paying little attention to her when she’s over-excited and this calms her down quickly.

She is quite settled and sleeps at times throughout the day.  She plays a lot with my boy and is a great lover of her toys and a bit of tug-o-war.  Clever girl plays with more tricky feeding toys and always manages to figure them out, these can keep her occupied for quite some time.
