Todd is a gorgeous, young dog with a cheerful disposition, a very clever brain and a great deal of energy. He would thrive in an active home without children under 12 where he can come along on adventures, frolic about with another dog, and learn plenty of new tricks. Given the chance, Todd will capture your heart as easily as he catches butterflies (and crickets and anything else that moves).
If you are looking for a pocket-sized athlete, Todd could be the pup for you. He may only be small in stature, but those little legs can propel him a long way into the air at considerable speed. His future home has to have secure colorbond fencing to keep him safe: Todd is a real escape artist and can be both creative and persistent in figuring out how to climb, jump or dig under barriers. Given his lively nature, Todd needs to have at least two good walks each day and a good amount of play time. He will even comfortably lead the way on short runs and still have plenty of energy for merrymaking afterwards. Cats and other small pets would not be suitable companions for Todd, as he has a very high prey drive and is a skilled hunter. He is also very fast and would probably love to try his paw at agility or flyball. This little pocket-rocket definitely needs an active home that provides plenty of outlets for his energy.

Playing is one of Todd’s favourite things to do. He loves a good game of tug with his people, but he is just as happy chasing a ball and will even toss toys around to play by himself. Romping around the garden with another dog is also great fun, but Todd can be a bit rude and intense when playing, which can make him a bit overwhelming for some dogs. As Todd can get mouthy and jumpy when playing and when overstimulated, he is not suitable for a home with children under the age of 12.
Luckily, Todd thinks training is almost as much fun as playing! This clever boy is very food motivated and really enjoys learning new tricks and solving food puzzles. He is fully house trained and accustomed to using a dog door. He is very smart and quick to pick up new skills, and training is a great way to keep his little brain busy and out of mischief. Todd loves engaging with his handlers and is eager to please, so someone who enjoys trick training would likely find Todd a very rewarding companion.
Todd didn’t have the best start to life and came into care undersocialised. As a result, he can be quite wary of new people and needs to be given time, space and positive reinforcement to adjust to new situations. Despite this, he has shown himself to be good-natured, adaptable and very quick to bond to people. He loves to snuggle up on the couch and get all the attention he can from the people he likes. In fact, he struggles being left alone and would prefer to live with someone who isn’t away from the house for too many hours each day. Todd is very curious and is doing well with confidence-building exercises. He will look to other dogs for confidence in unfamiliar situations. Having another dog in the home to show him the ropes, to keep him company and to play with would therefore be good.
As is typical of a terrier, Todd can be very vocal. If there is an intruder in the garden, whether a person, a possum or a pigeon, Todd will be sure to let you know. Although he has gotten much better at managing being left behind and can settle himself quite quickly, Todd is likely to bark for some of the time while you are out and he has a big bark for a little dog. He also shows reactivity and frustration on lead, and can get very worked up if not managed. We are working with a trainer to improve this, but his future home should be prepared to continue working on this behaviour.
