Harvey

Harvey

Animal ID No: ARF1133
Rescue Date: 20 May 2022
Adopted Date: 17 August 2022

Harvey is a gentle and sweet boy who is looking for a home where he’ll get a whole lot of love and a moderate amount of exercise.

It took him a few weeks in care to come out of his shell. He is big, affectionate goofball who is well behaved indoors and (mostly) good on the lead. He loves going for walks, and with treats is quite good at loose lead walking. He also loves playing fetch and tug, but happily brings the toy back for more play.

Harvey is a big snuggle bug. He loves cuddles and bum scratches, and will quickly drop onto his back if belly rubs are on the cards.

His foster mum has done a lot of work to help build his confidence. He has some typical stubborn cattle dog traits and when he came into care, he would shut down quickly when he was made to do anything against his will. After several weeks he learned to trust his foster mum and is much more willing to do things of his own accord. He is treat motivated and enjoys training with people. Any prospective adopter will need to be committed to maintaining his training.

There are still a few things in life that can make Harvey a bit worried. He does not like the vacuum cleaner, brooms or moving wheelie bins and cannot be in the same place when they are used or he tries to attack them. For these reasons, he would not be suitable in a home with small children.

He is a bit silly when meeting other dogs and needs careful introductions to make sure he doesn’t annoy the other dog. He hasn’t met any cats while in care but based on his behaviour around small wild animals (chasing, stalking), he is unlikely to be suitable for a home with other small pets.

He’s house trained, can use a dog door and while he likes tearing up boxes when he can, hasn’t shown interest in chewing up other things.

In the end, Harvey is a very affectionate friend in the making, whose personality and confidence will continue to flourish

'Rescued' is my favourite breed
