More About Hunter

Hi! My name is Hunter! I’m a crossbreed. I am a big boy with an even bigger heart. My foster Mum says I will be hard to part with so she is looking for the perfect forever home for me. I’m still a young boy (about 2.5 years old), and I would love to have a nice backyard to run around in. I’m a moderate/high energy boy that really enjoys a daily walk to get some exercise and do some exploring. I am then happy to relax for the rest of the day.

I am great with people. I’ll take all the pats and love you can give, and love nothing more than hanging out with my people the whole day. I would love a home where someone is working from home so I have company. I can get excited when meeting people but I am learning good manners and settle quickly. I am also learning structured play and think I’m doing great when my foster mum gets home and I greet her at the door with my toy in my mouth. My foster mum says that due to my size my interactions with small children should be supervised and I would be better in a home with older children.

I’m a very smart boy and find it easy to learn new things. I know sit, drop, wait, come and wait before dinner and I’m very good at stopping at roads on walks and sitting and waiting to be told to cross. I can get very excited when I see another dog on a walk because I love meeting new dogs so much but if they keep moving then I will too. My foster mum says that I need consistency in day-to-day life and a new experienced owner who can maintain my training would be great.

I am not sure what cats or pocket pets are (never met any), but I suspect I wouldn’t be great with them. Initial introductions with other dogs need to be carefully managed as I am a dominant dog. I have had a lot of training whilst on the lead with other dogs and have played with dogs at boarding kennels but I can be very boisterous which makes some dogs a bit snappy with me. My foster mum and I have been doing a lot of training and I am learning to control my excitability and to self-regulate with constant reinforcement and reassurance. I will need a new owner who can continue to work with me on this issue. I would be quite happy not to have any doggie brothers or sisters in my new home but if I did, they would need to be robust and young too. If you are interested in giving me a new home, please get in touch!

You can also check out my Instagram page, hunterandwanderer, to see what me and my foster mum have been up too!

PLEASE NOTE: Hunter is not suitable for a first-time dog owner. Due to the ongoing training requirements, he is best suited to somebody who has experience with large, excitable breeds, and who is willing to put in the time and effort to continue the good-canine-citizen education of this handsome man.

Thank you for considering an ARF dog. Most dogs receive many enquiries, and we aim to match the right dog to the right home so that they can enjoy a happy life together. If your enquiry is unsuccessful, rest assured that the foster carer has carefully based their decision on a thorough knowledge and understanding of the dog’s needs.
