Indy

Indy

Animal ID No: ARF1617
Rescue Date: 14 December 2023
Adopted Date: 28 January 2024

Indy is sweetest little lady whose life goal is to be able to stretch her legs at a peaceful rural retreat with her new person at her side.

Indy came into ARF care after having a rough time in the pound environment.  She can be a little sensitive to noise, so the kennels at Christmas were a bit rough for her so the lovely Canberra Rangers worked hard to get her into a home asap.  She was lucky to find a foster home where she could decompress a little and get used to suburban living.

While we don’t know anything about Indy’s past, what we do know is she loves the rural life!  Getting out to stretch her legs and have a swim in the dam is her ideal day.  She has a great recall and is keen to do the right thing.  We haven’t seen her around livestock as yet but as she prefers to stay close to her person we feel she would do well.

Indy loves her people and is quite snuggly.  Kicking back on the couch watching shows would definitely be on her list of things to do.  She can be a little timid when first meeting new people. but tends to just watch until she is ready to say hello which is pretty quick.  She would need a quieter type home and would prefer older children due to the noise factor.  She is only a miniature sized Border Collie at around 12kg so is the perfect little pocket sized dog.

While Indy has made doggy friends in ARF care and loves to run and play chase with her Kelpie friend, her levels of insecurity can cause her to want to control things such as access to her people, so she would be best in a single dog home or with a laid back dogs who won’t take offence if she blocks their access to something.  We will continue with good boundaries and building confidence while she is in foster care so we hope these feelings for her will dissapate.  She would love a person who helps push her out of her comfort space, rather than feeding her insecurity with too much love…..though she will definitely have some of that too.

Indy doesn’t seem to have any of the usual formal style training in her repetoire, but she is house trained and will sleep beautifully in a crate.  She rides well in the car and we haven’t heard her bark yet!  We are still learning more about her out in public and on lead but so far so good.

Indy would love a person who is home more often than not.  Someone that will get her out and about to see the world and build great memories with.  Her ideal person would have a bit of dog experience, and would be willing to learn more about how to build her confidence to allow her to live her best life and feel secure.

Indy will need some vet work over the next few weeks so won’t be ready to move out quite yet, but we welcome any interest and can update as we get to know her more.
