Introducing…Doogie!
Doogie (aka the Doogmeister, aka the Doogster, aka Doogie Doogie Doo – think Scooby Doobie Doo) is about as pleasant a dog as you will ever come across.

Since the day he came to us he has been an absolute sweetheart. Raised for 3.5 years on a farm, with quite a lot of freedom, we were worried that he might not take to walking on a lead or being in our backyard (which, although large, is no farm!). But nope, he took to it like a duck to water.
He enjoys regular walks each day (morning and evening) and is friendly to other humans and dogs he meets. He doesn’t pull on his leash, but will happily sniff every single tree, piece of grass, or bush along your walk, so don’t be in a hurry!

He is great with kids. Our girls, 6 and 8, play with him morning and afternoon and he is always happy to see them and give them a ‘paw-5’, which they have taught him to do. He doesn’t jump up generally but will put a paw on your leg or chest, which can be a bit heavy for a little one. We’ve been teaching him not to do this, but it seems to be his sign of affection, so is taking a little longer.

He doesn’t dig holes or chew shoes, toys or gardening tools (thanks to my children, plenty of temptation has been left out, I can assure you!).
He has beautiful, soulful eyes and you can see he just wants to please his hoomans – and for that reason (or perhaps because he is fed well) he has never tried to escape. He will run after a ball that has been thrown but doesn’t quite know what to do with it once he reaches it, so some Connection through Play training (occurring on 28 November) will be useful.

He has been an outside dog his whole life, so is quite content to sleep outside on top of his crate (not inside it, though he will go in it to transport). On colder days and nights, he has enjoyed staying in the comfort of the laundry on his day bed. We’ve only had one accident inside but we are working on toilet training. He doesn’t generally bark or whine unless he’s feeling a bit lonely or he thinks we’ve taken too long to feed him his dinner or breakfast, which he knows he gets after the family has eaten. He is super clever and a quick learner. He loves to be near his people and is an affectionate pooch.
He’s been let off the lead a few times in paddocks near our house and enjoys a good ol’ frolic and roll. But, knowing he is loved and cared for by his humans, he will come back when called. Not sure if that extends to if he saw a roo or a rabbit – he’d likely take a bit more convincing to come back. During the day he is happy to snooze in a sunny spot and does not appear to be restless. He does like company though so would suit a family who has the time to play, walk, run, and interact with him regularly.

He is particularly responsive to treats and so training has been straightforward. We have taught him sit and wait until told ‘eat’ when we place out his breakfast/dinner, which he does willingly. He can give a high five (or ‘paw-5’ as my girls like to say). He will generally sit when and wait for you to say ‘cross’ when walking across a road, but this works much better when prompted with treats. We are working on getting him to ‘drop’/lay down on command.
He likes his raw food diet of chicken wings, mince, tuna, a bit of dry food, rice, plus grated apple, carrot, blueberries (he won’t eat them on their own though, so, like feeding children, we sneak them into the mix).
