Jingles

Jingles

Animal ID No: ARF1282
Rescue Date: 14 October 2022
Adopted Date: 21 December 2022

Meet Jingles. She may look like an old lady, but under her scruff she is a sweet little girl of only 3 years. At only 4kg, she is a petite little thing who loves everyone, including other dogs and cats.

Unfortunately, her story is not all jolly.

Jingles was much loved by her family, but when she lost the use of her legs they were faced with medical bills beyond their capacity. She was surrendered to the vet to be euthanised, should the vets not be able to find a rescue group prepared to take on her medical bills.

Tuggeranong vet reached out to ARF with her history, the extent of the treatment, and how much was required to get her the help she needed. She had quite the journey ahead of her with a CT scan, possibly surgery, and then rehabilitation. We met Jingles and she won us over immediately. We simply couldn’t say no.

Belconnen Vet Hospital did the CT for us and found her to have Intervertebral Disc Disease (IVDD); a degenerative disease that affects the spinal cord, causing pain and mobility issues. IVDD is often described as a ruptured, slipped, bulging, or herniated disc. Jingles, being the amazing, gutsy, and strong little dog that she is, started to improve on her own and has not required surgery thus far. She has since been in care, receiving the rest and physio she needs by one of our awesome carers. Jingles is now able to walk on her own again.

And now we are looking for a very special home for Jingles. A house with no steps and a family that understands what IVDD is (or is willing to learn) and is willing to give her the care that she needs. She gets along well with other animals but will need a quiet and calm space (with calm pets) that will not encourage her to get down and party.

Whilst she is doing amazingly well now, IVDD is a lifelong condition for her and will likely require surgical intervention in the future, and ongoing medical support. Unfortunately, as this is an existing condition, she does not qualify for pet insurance.

We absolutely ADORE Jingles. She is one of a kind and the best family dog. She is a truly special young girl looking for a truly special family.

'Rescued' is my favourite breed
