Lulu

Lulu

Animal ID No: ARF1467
Rescue Date: 9 October 2023
Adopted Date: 14 February 2024

Through no fault of her own, Lulu found herself at the pound with her sister, Lottie (see separate profile), at the young age of 3 months. Sadly, they were in the pound for five months without any options so ARF arranged private accommodation for the sisters at a kennel. ARF put together a team of volunteers and a professional trainer to work with the girls to ensure they caught up on their training and understanding of the world they would be living in. They have both excelled in their training and development and are ready to find their forever home.

Lulu is full of playfulness and has a zest for life, she is always up for a game but is equally happy to just have lots of quiet cuddles. Although she has missed out on some important learning milestones as a pup, Lulu is resilient and willing to give new things a go. She learns best through clear guidance and encouragement, as well as lots of praise and her favourite treats!

Her new family will be committed to continuing her training and gentle exposure to the world around her. She will make a wonderful companion for an active family who wants to include a dog in their life.

Lulu will expect to be inside with her family and would enjoy the company of another dog (pending introductions). She is not suitable for a family who has cats … or other small furry or feathered animals. Given her sometimes youthful boisterous outbursts, she may not be suitable for a family with very little people.’

Additional information from foster carer:

Lulu has been with me (Ashlee), my partner and our dog Red (5 yr old male Red Heeler) since 17th of December, 2023.

During her time with us, she has come out of her shell and continues to grow each and every day. She can be a little timid at times, so we find that positive reinforcement works best with her. She goes for a nice big walk with her big brother every morning which she loves! We’ve also started introducing some off leash time at the oval where she loves to run her little heart out. During our walks, I’ve been doing a lot of basic training with her with treat rewards to reinforce that positive behavior, this includes sitting before crossing roads, attention/focus exercises and a lot of recall training, all of which she is absolutely mastering!

During the day, she likes to lounge around the house (preferably somewhere in the sun or under my desk, at my feet!), wonder around the backyard, play with her toys (she’s very good at keeping herself occupied), have a rumble with our boy Red or cuddle up on the couch with myself or my partner.. whoever is her favorite person on that given day (usually me!).

Her energy levels are high only at the right times (playing with Red in the backyard or off leash time at the park), aside from that, she is very calm and quite docile.

All in all, Lulu is the most gentle girl with the most beautiful brown eyes. She is very affectionate and thrives of positive reinforcement. She walks willingly into her crate every night (sometimes not even prompted) and you won’t hear a peep from her until morning. She has full access to our yard and the house at all times using the doggy door, she is now sufficiently toilet trained and sticks to her/our routine very well.

I can’t for the life of me understand how she’s spent the most part of her life in a pound/kennel, and how well she has adapted to life in the outside world and in our home. She will be a hard one to let go of but we are certain she’ll make the most amazing companion to one very special person/family one day soon.

I would be happy to arrange a meet and greet with you/your family/other dogs to see if she is the right fit for you. Be warned though, she is much cuter in person, so be prepared to potentially return home with a very sweet Lulu girl by your side.
