Whisper

Whisper

Animal ID No: ARF850
Rescue Date: 1 October 2021
Adopted Date: 30 March 2022

Are you looking for a dog that is very talented, has a great zest for life, is very affectionate and loves her person but has some special needs? If so, Whisper might be for you!  Read on knowing that this girl will only be rehomed to the ‘perfect match’ home that can provide her needs.

Whisper is such a character dog, medium-sized with gorgeous scruffy hair, she is immediately appealing.  She is devoted to her foster carer and this is what she will transfer to her new owner, so you need to be able to take on this role.  Whisper likes to be near her family and will need to be an inside dog.  You will become the most important person in her world.

Whisper is quite a lot of fun, she loves exercise and would make a great running partner.  Whisper also loves going for a swim in the river. Whisper has a high intelligence and needs her brain exercised daily through doing various challenging activities such as obedience / dog sports training.  She is agile and activity is not an effort to her. She absolutely loves playing tug with you or she will get a toy for herself roll on her back and entertain herself playing with it.  With the right training, she could excel in dog sports like GRC and Agility.

Whisper already has learned to walk on lead nicely, sit, wait & out. She can be stubborn and needs strong boundaries or she will take advantage of you.  She is such such a funny girl with many facets to her character .

While Whisper’s training is well on the way, she requires an experienced dog person,  to be able to ensure she is always kept safe (know where she is and ensure she is comfortable in new situations).  She is not a dog that can go to dog parks or into groups of off-lead dogs where a dog may run up to her.

Whisper is great at just curling up and sleeping whilst you are in the office and she is by your side you wouldn’t even know she is there.

There is a lot to Whisper and she can make me smile and laugh. She is quirky and if you like a dog that has character she has buckets of it.  Whisper loves to talk and will chat with you and back chat at you. She will often carry her toys in her mouth while chatting to you.

Whisper has some special needs, and while these can be challenging, in the right home, these should be able to be managed. These include:

SPECIAL NEEDS:

  • Secure housing required -we joke that she is crossed with a mountain goat hence why she is so Agile. If Whisper is left to her own devices in the backyard, she will start looking to escape and as she is agile, it is highly possible she may escape, she just wants to see whats on the other side.  Her new home will need to have a high fencing, to help prevent her escaping.  When you leave the house, she will need to be secured (preferably with access to the house) or crated to ensure that she is still at home on your return.  ARF can assist with providing guidance for this.
  • If Whisper feels segregated, she will bark.  This will need to be managed and ARF can assist with providing guidance for this.
  • Dog-Dog interactions – Whisper is not always comfortable with new dogs and needs slow introductions.  She is able to be in the vicinity of other dogs, but is not one for face-to-face meet ups and games unless it is a dog she knows and is comfortable with.  She is would be best as a only dog as she doesn’t always want to share her human however at the moment lives with 4 other dogs who she can play with if managed well
  • Not suitable to a home with cats and small animals – Whisper has high prey drive and therefore will not be rehomed with small animals.

Having a dog with special needs is an important responsibility for the new owner.  Please consider this carefully before enquiring.  If you feel that you would like to consider adoption of Whisper and can provide for her needs, the foster carer will be able to provide further information.
