Say hello to our lovely 11-year-old Border Collie x, Yen.

Yen enjoys the day being in the company of humans and is ready to settle down into a well-deserved retirement.
Her hobbies include playing with her ball and toys (she loves to run and chase her ball, with interim breaks to lay down and chew on it before chasing again), daily walks, and relaxing with her humans nearby.

She is pretty laid-back (for a border collie) and doesn’t bark or whine much at all (we’ve barely heard a peep).
She walks well on a lead (although she will pull if she sees a rabbit) and enjoys her twice-daily walks, which are more like slow strolls around the neighbourhood where she can take her time sniffing and exploring.

Yen can still jump over fences like a young pup!  This means she will need a secure yard with tall fences where she can walk around and relax.
If left outside alone for too long, she may try to escape, but is self-reliant and can be left alone inside without getting anxious. Of course, she prefers when her humans are home more often than not to hang out with, but is not needy and will happily sleep somewhere near you.
She is toilet trained, but may have the odd accident around the house.

Despite loving being around people and being very cute, she doesn’t love being handled (picked up, being touched on the legs, rough patting) or groomed. For this reason, she would be unsuitable in a household with children or teenagers. She will need people who are patient and understanding that she needs her space and will not be a lap dog.

She knows her basic commands (sit, stay, drop, down etc), but will need some help with reminding her of good manners as it seems like a while since she’s had to practice them.
She is quite smart and is a quick learner so she’s adapted well to learning new/reinforced commands (stop, sit/wait/release, place) but will need continued reinforcement.

Unfortunately she has had some issues with her foster dog brother and sister and would find it best to live in a single-dog household where she can relax and enjoy the company of humans. This also means, no other pets (cats, rabbits, chickens, birds, etc) as she likes to chase smaller animals. She will also need to be introduced to any new dogs slowly.

She will need a quieter home and a calm lifestyle without too much stress for her later years. Yen has had a couple of mild seizures since coming into care, which we think may be the result of the stress of trying to cope with her change in circumstances. These are easily managed with medication. Since being in case, she has been for a vet assessment and has undergone minor surgery for removal of a mammary tumour. Because she is now an older lady, she may also need medication to help with some arthritis.

Yen is a very lovable girl who needs a bit of TLC, understanding and patience, but will be a rewarding new friend for anyone willing to give her the love and care she deserves.
