Hamish

Hamish - on Hold

Animal ID No: ARF1281
Rescue Date:
Adopted Date: 9 January 2023

Please read the profile below and ensure that Hamish is well matched to your situation before applying. Also, please take time to read the Bronze Perfect information Perfect Match – ACT Rescue and Foster Inc. (ARF) (fosterdogs.org)

Hamish is an adorable and sensitive little fellow who is sweet and friendly, however he is extremely scared of humans and therefore needs a very specific home for his perfect match. Please note that Hamish will not be rehomed with children due to his fearful nature. Children are unpredictable and will scare him, he will not want them to pat him.  He is not aggressive but he is fearful. Please do not submit a request if you have children as it will not be considered.

Hamish is able to walk on lead (in quiet places) and his house training is okay if he is able to get outside.  He loves to have a doggy best friend for confidence and games.  He is relatively active and loves to run around with his furry friends and play with toys.  He will alert bark if he is unsure of something or if someone comes to the house. Hamish is good to groom but needs to be taken slowly as he is very sensitive.  Hamish loves his food and treats, which helps to make training easier for him, however this is a slow process to help keep him calm.

We have seen a lot of improvement since he has come into care. He recently took treats from visitors to our house after they had been there for some time.  Previously he would not even venture out when people arrived.

Hamish will improve as he settles in with his new family, however this will take an extended period of time.  He is unlikely to fully recover from being fearful of people he is unfamiliar with.

Hamish’s best match new home will need to be quiet and calm with mature adults only and NO children.  Due to the need for behavioural rehabilitation, his new family will need to be experienced with dog behaviour and will seek assistance of a reputable trainer if required.  He must be able to sleep on the bed as this is one of his few places that he feels ‘safe’. His new home MUST have another friendly, confident dog for Hamish to play with and gain confidence from. Please note that homes without a suitable dog for Hamish’s confidence and companionship will not be considered.

As Hamish will need to be moved slowly into his new home, only local adoptions will be considered at this time.

Hamish is a lovely and lovable little fellow and will blossom in the right home.
