More About Rusty – on hold

Rusty is an almost 8 year old kelpie cross, and has energy during the day, but also loves to curl up and sleep peacefully in her crate all night.

Rusty is a sweet intelligent dog who loves more than anything else to play and go for walks.  She is very affectionate  loves a brush and an ear scratch (even better than a treat).

She has recently learned of new things – and has coped really well.

Rusty came into Canberra from a country home with a large yard, and is now learning about what its like to have city neighbours, to walk on a loose lead and to be careful on roads.  She is getting good about looking to her walker for advice when she sees something new or scary.  Training with treats has been working well so she does not rush off when first starting her walk. Once she has settled into the walk after a few minutes she is content of go on a loose lead and has really improved at this.  She will come quickly for high value treats (unless there is a dead kangaroo to sniff)! She loves to play and has a favourite pink pig which she carries around in her mouth hoping for a game of chasey.  Rusty loves to go anywhere in the car especially if there is a chance of a splash in the water somewhere.  She loves water play.    She’s good with other dogs although is still working on passing dogs and exciting things calmly on the lead.

She is good about food – will wait until told she can eat.  And is terrific in coffee shops – lies under the table and waits patiently watching the world go by.

Rusty is a house-trained and doesn’t chew furniture etc.

Rusty has been thriving with a strong daily routine – being fed at the same time every day, morning walk at same time (but in varied places), coffee shop training with other dogs and people,  same bed time same each night.   Crate as a refuge during the day.  Routine has been good for her. She is a clean dog, not fussy about food, is happy at home in a yard and does not try to escape. She sleeps quietly all night. She is good with other dogs, but not cats and possums.

She has a sense of humour, is very intelligent and would make a loving companion for an active older person or a family with older children.

Rusty is desexed, registered, has vaccinations and worming up to date, is microchipped. What more are you waiting for?
