Mate

Mate lived 12 very happy years with us and was SO loved. He had cooked food EVERY night - no tinned food for him - had breakfast of scrambled egg/yoghurt/ fruit ... and was thoroughly spoilt.  He repaid us a thousandfold in love and loyalty. Right up until the end he was chasing the ball He had a white heart on his chest. He started each night guarding my bedroom door, then went to my son’s door, then to his own (plush Pawpedics posturepedic) bed! Mate unfortunately transitioned last Wednesday (December 2023) - very very suddenly and unexpectedly - when the vet discovered an aggressive spleen tumour. It  was a terrible decision to let him go but we had absolutely no option. We stayed with him to the end and he passed peacefully. We are devastated and the house is empty without him. But we are so grateful for having had him in our lives. He lived the last 3 years with us at Yamba NSW and loved the beach.

Alf (Alfie)

Alfred the Great (Alf) came to live with me on 17 April, 2019.  He was a Kelpie x Heeler, ten years and four months old. Alf was an ‘always there’ dog. He was at my side wherever I went in the house, at the gate when I came home in the car and on my bed at night. He loved his walks, car rides or just sitting beside me on the back steps in the sun. He always brought such joy to my life. Unfortunately, after a few months of failing health, he crossed the Rainbow Bridge on 30 July, 2023. Quote: “ Dogs come into our lives to teach us about love, they depart to teach us about loss. A new dog never replaces an old dog, it simply expands the heart. If you have loved many dogs, your heart is very big.” Erica Jong. Alf expanded my heart. R.I.P my darling boy – I miss you! Grateful thanks to all the big-hearted people in the ARF team. Riley

Our little man Riley passed away a few weeks ago aged 18. He came to us through ARF when he was a year old and had already been already re-homed 3 previous times. Affectionately known as “Rat” he had a great life full of living all over Australia before finally coming home to Canberra, playing with his brother Mickey the labradoodle who lived to be 16 years old. Riley was such a beautiful little man, full of love and personality, we miss him dearly and cherished the 17 years we had him in our lives.

Peggy-Sue

Sadly our beloved Peggy has crossed the Rainbow Bridge on the 19th July, aged 15 years. We adopted her (or rather she adopted us) from ARF in May 2014 and we had the most wonderful 9 years with her. We will miss her immensely but we are grateful for all the adventures we had together.

Misty

Misty was our fosterdog for only 7 weeks and one day.  I don’t think I’ve ever had a dog that was as good in every single way.  She was in tune and seemed to know instinctively what you were asking of her.  She was so beautifully behaved, rarely barked, accepted everything and had beautiful nature and beautiful manners to match.  She loved attention so would welcome all and any pats on offer but was never pushy. She was 11 years old and sadly had lots of health problems.  We all tried hard to help her but it wasn’t to be.  Her kidneys failed.  We loved her dearly and will never forget her.  A truly special dog and certainly one in a million.
